Executive project brief

The challenge

No municipal wastewater service was available. Mall effluent contained high fats, oils and grease and COD above the expected design basis, requiring longer retention and a robust biological process.

Solution architecture

The following elements are documented in SewTreat’s published project record.

  1. Steel-tank and container hybrid plant
  2. Retention increased from 2.5 to 4.7 days
  3. IFAS process combining MBBR and RAS
  4. Configuration for seasonal and variable peak loads

Engineering assurance

Published outcome

Process capacity was increased to an equivalent 140 m3/day retention basis to manage the measured COD load.

What the project demonstrates

  • Environmental compliance
  • Productive water reuse
  • Remote-site operation
  • Improved handling of high-contamination effluent

Before procurement

  1. Representative water analysis completed
  2. Average, peak and future flows validated
  3. Required standard and destination made explicit
  4. Civils, utilities, storage and distribution interfaces defined
  5. Operating and maintenance model resourced
  6. Commissioning evidence and acceptance criteria agreed
